The state of Maine and the forest products community lost a giant with the passing of Sherry Huber on June 4, 2022. For over 20 years, as Maine TREE’s Executive Director, Sherry was instrumental in growing the organization to what it is today, including developing the annual Forests of Maine Teachers’ Tours.
Beyond Maine TREE, Sherry was involved with numerous conservation-minded organizations, serving as a board member for the Forest Society of Maine, Maine Audubon, Natural Resources Council of Maine, and the Maine Chapter of The Nature Conservancy.
“Sherry was an incredible leader and was able to make things happen seemingly by sheer will and through her vast network of friends and colleagues,” shared Maine TREE Board President Ethan Bessey. He continued, “As executive director of the Maine TREE Foundation, Sherry was a champion of forest-based education in the state and successfully helped to create a home for forest products related groups that needed organization and support. Her leadership and vision are the legacy we strive to continue at the Maine TREE Foundation, and she will be greatly missed by those who had the privilege to know her and to work with her.”
