Connecting Maine Youth to Forest-based Careers

Writer: Hope LightHope Light

At Maine TREE, we are ready to help teachers, and other organizational leaders, engage with middle and high school students to explore forest-based career options through several hands-on activities.  Those activities are part of the Green Jobs: Exploring Forest Careers module of Project Learning Tree.

If you are interested in learning more about this guide, or even trying the personality quiz with your students during Earth Month in April, please reach out to us at maineplt@mainetree.org

For now, please see two unique opportunities for recent or soon-to-be high school graduates to learn about specific careers in engineering or timber harvesting. Consider Engineering, hosted by the UMaine Pulp and Paper Foundation at the Orono campus, is a free weeklong program to support high school students exploring careers in engineering.

The Mechanized Logging Operations Program, delivered by the Professional Logging Contractors of Maine, is a 12-week program to prepare students for a career in the field of logging and timber harvesting in Maine.
